PERSPECTIVE DEVELOPMENT COACHING:
Everything we think and do is filtered through how we perceive the world,
...and perhaps more importantly, how we perceive ourselves.
Those perceptions are manageable,
and they can be developed in ways that move us towards our preferred life.
What:
I offer a form of Life Coaching that I call Perspective Development Coaching. We will ask:
-
“What is shaping the way you see yourself, your situation, and your available choices?”
-
“How can a shift in the way you look at yourself or the world improve your effectiveness, happiness, and relationships?”
As you might infer from my book, The Animal In The Mirror, my approach focuses on two main things:
1. ‘What our instinct prompts us to do’ versus ‘Who our higher self wants to be’,
2. How our perspective (of self and the world around us) can be chosen intentionally.
The goal is to find greater clarity and greater empowerment, so that we might better walk a path that will be most fulfilling for us.
Everyone’s path will look different, as it should.
The important thing is that it be as meaningful and joyful as possible.
Note that my work is not therapy; I am not a licensed mental health or social work professional. (see below)
I provide an interaction directed towards personal growth and conscious evolution.

Coaching, Therapy, and Social Work
Life coaching, therapy, and social work can all offer valuable support, but they serve somewhat different purposes.
Therapy is the appropriate setting for diagnosing or treating mental-health conditions, processing trauma, or addressing significant emotional distress. Licensed clinical social workers may provide therapy as well, while social workers can also help people navigate family, healthcare, housing, benefits, community resources, and other practical or social challenges.
Coaching is intended for people who are not seeking clinical treatment but would like greater clarity, perspective, direction, and freedom in how they respond to the circumstances of their lives.
The simplest distinction is:
-
Therapy asks, in part, “What is hurting, why is it happening, and how can it be treated?”
-
Coaching asks, “What do you want to accomplish, and how will you move toward it?”
My approach, which I call Perspective Development Coaching, adds:
-
“What is shaping the way you see yourself, your situation, and your available choices?”
-
“How can a shift in the way you look at yourself or the world improve your effectiveness, happiness, and relationships?”
Drawing on the behavioral model presented in The Animal In The Mirror, we explore how fear, habit, social conditioning, and survival instinct may be influencing your thoughts, emotions, and reactions — and how you can develop a more conscious perspective aligned with your values, your higher self, and the life you genuinely wish to create.
Coaching and therapy need not be alternatives. They can work very well together for complementary reasons. A person might work with a therapist to treat anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, or other psychological difficulties while working with a coach to apply greater awareness and intentionality to relationships, career decisions, creative work, habits, personal goals, or a period of transition.
My coaching is not a substitute for licensed mental-health care, and I will always encourage appropriate professional support when a person’s needs extend beyond the scope of coaching.
